RUBETTA NEAL
Rubetta (b. 2001) is an artist based in Pōneke, Wellington. Her paintings are influenced by the nature of photography and its malleability. Through recycling existing imagery Rubetta is able to destabilise the familiar and slow down its consumption. Recently Rubetta’s works have been exploring images and objects that mimic the ‘real’. Her fascination stems from the decontextualisation of information and the ‘natural’ world in our current age. Rubetta’s works embrace the ominous, surreal and absurdity of living in a disconnected age.
